The final stage of the Professionals Championship has started in SSAU
22.04.2025

Students from five regions of Russia take part in the championship.: Novosibirsk Region, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Moscow, the Moscow Region, the Novgorod Region, and the Stavropol Territory. The participants are the winners of the regional stages. The Stavropol Territory is represented by Alexander Kostenko, a first-year student of the Institute of Secondary Vocational Education of the SSAU specializing in Information Systems and Programming. The trainer-mentor of the participant is the winner of the WorldSkills Kazan 2019 World Professional Skills Championship in the competence of «Rapid prototyping» Eduard Samoilov.

The assignment for the championship was provided by the Stavropol Regional Clinical Hospital. The institution sent the CT scan data of a patient with a medium-sized skull defect. The task of the championship participants in three competitive days is to create an accurate 3D model of the patient's skull and simulate an individual implant using computed tomography data. A prosthesis made of medical cement should cover the area of the defect. Additionally, participants must simulate a titanium implant using SLM printing technology on a 3D printer.

Stavropol State Agrarian University was chosen as the venue for the conference for a reason. The innovative prototyping and engineering Center «Vector» operates on the basis of the university. To date, doctors have already performed more than 100 operations using prosthetics developed by the center's specialists. With the help of special computer programs, engineers analyze and process the results of computed tomography of the skull. These data make it possible to create a highly accurate 3D model of the cranial cavity in compliance with all the physiological and age—related features of its structure. Then the specialists reproduce digital copies of the damaged areas, on the basis of which the prostheses are made. For the production of implants, SSAU engineers use special medical steel or biocompatible plastics that are safe for human life. At the same time, two manufacturing technologies are available at the Vector Center today: by casting in silicone molds or 3D printing.
