Rector of Stavropol State Agrarian University Vladimir Sitnikov took part in a meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and leading breeding centers.
Russia plans to develop and implement a unified model of genomic breeding of dairy cattle. To create such a model, objective information about the phenotype and genotype of animals is necessary, which, in turn, requires their independent and objective assessment. Stavropol State Agrarian University conducts extensive work in this direction, participating in the regional program for breeding dairy animals and cooperating with Belarusian scientists from Belplemzhivobedinenie.
In addition, the university has the only accredited independent control and assistant service in the country, which has the status of a breeding farm for accounting, monitoring, evaluating productivity and product quality, as well as analyzing the breeding value of animals. To date, the service's activities cover 11 breeding enterprises in the region, and this is more than 7.5 thousand heads of cattle.
StGAU students work in a mobile laboratory of the control assistant service as part of a summer internship. Their activity consists in sampling milk in Stavropol farms using automatic counters. Milk must be transported correctly, for this it is poured into cups with a preservative that allows you to preserve the quality characteristics. Further research is carried out in a certified laboratory at the university.
— The industry faces the task of forming a domestic breeding core — this is the key to high-quality breeding work. We propose to create a unified network of control and assistance services, which would eventually not only accumulate data, but also contribute to a tangible and annual increase in cow productivity,» said Vladimir Sitnikov, Rector of the State State Agrarian University.
