Students of the «Ecology and Nature Management» direction, under the guidance of the curator Valeria Khalikova, carried out a visit to the wastewater discharge site.

In the course of practical work, future ecologists took water samples to determine its chemical composition and calculated the volume of discharged water. The selected samples were sent to the laboratory of the Center for Laboratory Analysis and Technical Measurements (CLATI) in the Stavropol Territory, where the students conducted an analysis using modern equipment.

During the inspection, the indicators of potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron, lead, zinc, nickel, copper, mercury, cadmium and petroleum products were studied. The results showed that exceedances of the maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) were detected only for iron (more than 10 times). This indicates a relatively sufficient quality of wastewater treatment discharged by enterprises.

— Such practical exercises arouse genuine interest among students, and the acquired skills will be very useful in their future professional activities. The students not only gained valuable experience in the field of ecology and nature management, but also were able to draw weighty conclusions about the state of water bodies in Stavropol, — said the curator of the group Valeria Khalikova.
