Stavropol priest played chess With foreign students of SSAU
2026/06/03

As part of the Africa Week, Stavropol State Agrarian University hosted an unusual chess tournament: Father Anthony, Chairman of the Stavropol Territory Chess Federation, challenged foreign students to an intellectual challenge: he held a simultaneous game session with 10 African chess players. The black and white board and the pieces became a universal language for the participants, which did not need translators: the game brought together representatives of different continents in an intellectual competition. The priest won 9 games at once, and another one ended in a draw.

In addition to the sports part, Father Anthony's visit also included a «dialogue of cultures» format. Anthony Yurievich Skrynnikov, who holds the posts of secretary of the diocesan administration and head of the missionary department, gave a lecture to the students. The topic of the meeting was"The missionary activity of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa». The priest told the foreigners about the spiritual ties between Russia and the African continent. During the conversation, the students discussed the role of Orthodoxy in the lives of African peoples and agreed that faith is a powerful foundation that unites people of different nationalities.

The meeting with Father Anthony became one of the highlights of Africa Week, a large—scale festival to strengthen interethnic ties that takes place at the university. This event once again confirmed the university's status: today SSAU is a global space where cultures, traditions and new ideas meet freely.
