The XVIII International Scientific and Practical Conference of the Russian Society for Ecological Economics (ROEE) «National Ecological, Economic and Social Interests in an Era of Great Challenges» was held on the basis of the Federal Research Center «Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences».
The conference brought together leading researchers in the field of environmental economics from Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Novosibirsk State University, Siberian Federal University, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other scientific and educational centers of Russia, as well as foreign scientists. The main purpose of the event was to discuss topical issues of global, national and regional environmental policy, sustainable development of territories and economic sectors.
Stavropol State Agrarian University was represented at the conference by Olga Cherednichenko, a member of the program Committee, Candidate of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Agroeconomics and Marketing. Within the framework of the section «Global and national environmental and Climate Policy: indicators and directions of implementation, development of cooperation with the BRICS+ countries» the lecturer made a presentation: «Decarbonization of the Russian agricultural sector: between climate commitments and economic feasibility».
The report presented an analysis of the contradiction between Russia's climate commitments under the Paris Agreement and the economic aspects of decarbonization of agriculture. The author considers the dual role of the agricultural sector as a source of greenhouse gas emissions and a potential carbon sink, whose contribution to the carbon balance requires a more accurate assessment. In the context of the implementation of the Strategy for Low-Carbon Development of the Russian Federation until 2050 and the Climate Doctrine of the Russian Federation, possible measures to optimize agricultural production are outlined, including the introduction of precision farming technologies, regenerative methods and biogas complexes. Special attention is paid to the problem of balancing the tasks of ensuring food security and reducing the carbon footprint. The report highlights the need to synchronize government support, scientific developments, and market mechanisms such as carbon unit trading and green financing for effective decarbonization. As a key conclusion, the speaker emphasized that the transformation of the agricultural sector towards carbon neutrality can increase the competitiveness of Russian products on world markets, provided that a balance is maintained between environmental requirements and economic efficiency.
A scientific article based on the report is included in the proceedings of the conference.
— The participation of our researchers in reputable international scientific forums, such as the ROE conference, is an important element of the institute's scientific activities.
