The problem of creating winter wheat varieties in the Stavropol Territory was solved by hybridizing highly drought-resistant local varieties with salt-tolerant varieties resistant to lodging. The breeding program for winter wheat has not undergone significant changes, except for the use of a more advanced source material in hybridization.
Further increasing the productivity of winter wheat requires, along with the introduction of new highly productive varieties, the development of a more advanced system of organizational and agrotechnical measures aimed at creating favorable conditions for plant growth and development.
At the experimental station of the SSAU, second-year graduate student Andrey Kashchaev conducted a research experiment on the research topic «Evaluation of breeding material and development of agrotechnical methods for cultivating a new variety of winter wheat in the conditions of the Central Ciscaucasia.»
A special feature of these scientific studies is that in the conditions of the experimental station of the SSAU, the L 2000 winter wheat line is being tested and a patent application will be filed, and elements of technology for cultivating a new variety of Stavropol-bred winter wheat have also been developed.
